Pretty sure you didn’t know about it as it is one of Portugal’s well hidden Gems. Did you know that there is a small Moorish town called Obidos in Portugal that people dress as queens and kings and takes you back to the Middle Ages? You should hurry though. This is only a special festival that only takes place during July 13 to August 6 so If you are in Portugal make sure to visit it!
When to visit Obidos?
You can always visit Obidos but the medieval fair is opened only from Thursday to Sunday so we highly recommend you to go then!
Special Tip: Visit Obidos Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and pay only €4.

How to get there?
You can easily get there If you have a car and it is very easy to get a parking! But If you do not have a car do not worry as you can easily take the Rapida Verde bus line from Campo Grande. It only takes 1 hour to arrive to Obidos and is only 84km far .
1.Walk through the cobblestone alleys of Obidos
Take a stroll around the beautiful and picturesque streets of the beautiful Obidos village. Get lost in each corner and take lots of pictures as the atmosphere is really inspiring!
2.Dress up like a king or queen
Even as a servant or a priest! There is a really cool shop in Obidos where you can rent a costume for €5 and then you get a discount of €2 to get into the Medieval Theme Park. There are thousands of options that you can choose from so If you like dressing up this is the place for you!
3. Enjoy ginjinha served in a chocolate cup for only €1
Ginjinha is a portuguese liqueur made by infusing ginja berries in alcohol. It is Highly recomended for you to try it as it was originally made in Óbidos! It tastes sooo good , not over-sweet just perfect like a drop of happiness in a cup of chocolate, can it get any better?
4. Visit some cool vintage bookshops
Do you like bookshops and libraries? Then you will fall in love with this place as it has vintage bookshops but also you can find this cool bookshop that used to be a church built in 13th century and located right by the entrance of a hilltop castle. You can find second hand books but you can also find the latest releases and best sellers!

Porto Wine is the most popular wine in Portugal and you can find it there sold by the different small shops of the area. Moreover, there are hundreds of wines that are also made in Obidos that can be found in these alleys.

Hearty soups, grilled meat and sausages ,cod,snails, rabbit, quail,hob ,lamb and squids are only just a few delights that you can enjoy from the many taverns that are spread throughout the marketplace of the medieval fair.

That’s right! You can also hike around as there are some nature trails in Obidos that you can follow to get around the area in the outskirts of the castle. Make sure you have some comfortable shoes as it’s very slippery.
